HISTORY

Containermax: A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence

1989

  • Container builds its first dry freight containers in Qingdao, China.
  • These containers, designed for the Australian market, introduce the innovative “pinched end” deisng, allowing 2,500mm wide pallet containers to fit into the cell guides of lier service ships.

1999

  • Containermax expands into refrigerated container production at Tonglee Reefer Container Company (TLC), China’s first refrigerated container factory.
  • The partnership with TLC begins, leading to the introduction of the “40’ Plus,” the 46’6”, and the 48’ two-pallet-wide reefers for the Australian market.

Circa 2000

  • Tony Brundle, a leading container design engineer, joins Containermax from the UK.
  • Under Tony’s guidance, Containermax and TLC develop a range of custom- built containers, including offshore reefers and solar-powered units.
  • Significant design innovations include emergency escape hatches, rear evaporators, aluminium and GRP construction, and meat hangars.

Early 2000s

  • Containermax participates in the roll-reefer project for Bass Strait, developing a robust floor structure capable of withstanding intense forklift traffic.
  • The project also introduces flaps in the floor for trailer-based refrigeration units, setting new industry standards for durability.

2010's

  • Throughout the 2010’s, our containers were further refined to enhance damage resistance, with the addition of flush-mounted F-track inserts (pogo rails), rear door ‘pry-bar’ system to assist opening shut-frozen doors and reduce manual handling injuries, several advanced features such as motion sensors, fuel level indicators, door opening sensors, and additional temperature monitoring systems. We were the first ones to pioneer the ¾ fuel tank for Bass Strait, allowing protected storage for 3-phase power leads, eliminating expensive lead damages.
  • Continued refinement of Containermax containers to enhance damage resistance.
  • Introduction of advanced features such as motion sensors, fuel level indicators, door opening sensors, and additional temperature monitoring systems.

2020s

  • Containermax diversifies its offerings with the introduction of cross-dock cool stores.
  • Refinement of the 48’ reefers to fit in the lower position of well wagons for double stacking, in line with the rollout of the patented Powerbox lithium battery power units.
  • Development of the AERO load bars, which optimise airflow while offering industry-leading load capacity.
